It's hot out.....don't do it....don't shave your Aussie's coat!

I know when you Aussie pants when it's hot outside you are thinking he/she has to be too hot with that heavy coat. Keep in mind that it is normal for your Aussie to pant... actually they do it all the time. (Im not taking about unusual heavy panting. That could be something serious) A healthy Aussie undercoat is designed to keep your Aussie warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The topcoat is designed to protect an Aussie from rain, like a raincoat, keep them from getting sunburned, and protect them from anything reaching their skin, like a sticks or insects. So your Aussie actually needs their coat all year round. Shaving your Aussie could also change the function and texture of the coat. It will become easily matted and not do what it was designed to do. The best thing to do is give your Aussies a good weekly brushing and lots of lovin the rest of the time.
